Residential Construction
Residential Construction is a limited enrollment program for approved second-year students. The program usually rebuilds and remodels a home for Habitat for Humanity. From September 2014 through May 2016 students were involved in building the Sustainable Energy Efficient Demonstration (SEED) house on the LISD Center for a Sustainable Future campus. By building and remodeling a house, students learn “on-the-job” while getting great satisfaction from a job well done!
Program Description
Students learn at the work site to complete all aspects of construction. In this second year course, students work in teams on various projects including demolition, framing, foundation support, drywall installation, flooring, electrical, plumbing, installation of doors and cabinets, HVACR, and more.
To Be Successful
Students first must have successfully completed Building Trades and be recommended for the onsite Residential Construction program. Students who are most successful in this program have mathematical skills in measuring, fractions, and decimals. Students should possess good work habits, like to work with their hands, follow directions, work well independently or as a team, and enjoy building and creating.
