Computer Information Services

The reliance of business on computers and technology demands skilled workers to meet the needs of today’s employers. Employment of computer network specialists is projected to grow faster than average for all occupation as demand increases due to businesses expanding their use of wireless and mobile networks. Programming, repair, design, networking and information security are all part of the computer industry. 

 

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Students in the CIS program learn in the classroom, virtually (online) and in group settings to diagnose and repair computers, set-up computer networks and prepare for various computer technician certifications. Special emphasis is also put on the latest cyber-security protocols and the prevention of computer hacking. The class participates in several student organization leadership events, including Business Professionals of America (BPA) and SkillsUSA. Students are able to earn Jackson College credit and industry certifications as part of this class.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL

Students in this class are interested in computers – what makes them work and how can they make them work better. They are creative at diagnostic and repair and will understand networking concepts and cyber-security strategies.

Instructor

Daniel Knoblauch has worked in industry for the past 10 years, ranging from an IT Support Technician to an IT Manager for local businesses. He is a former TECH Center Computer Information Services student who began his career at the TECH Center as a Technology Support Specialist before becoming the CIS instructor. Daniel received his degree in Applied Science from Baker College Owosso and is A+ and Network+ certified.
