The Careers in Biochemical Technology program gives students hands-on experience with research grade equipment used in the biotechnology and chemical industries. The course provides an overview of many different career types that utilize these laboratory tools. Most importantly, this course trains students to work safely in a laboratory environment using a variety of different chemicals and techniques. These skills can be applied to a career as a laboratory assistant directly out of high school, and are also applicable to college level biology and chemistry courses.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Biochemical Technology program exposes students to a variety of diverse skills related to working with chemicals, extracting DNA and producing biofuels. Students take numerous field trips or have guest speakers invited to the class that is helpful in exploring careers in the pharmaceutical, microbiology, product manufacturing, research and development fields. Students who take this program have the option to dual-enroll in Michigan State University classes.
